Pain with Sex

Many perimenopausal and menopausal women find that as their estrogen levels wane, sex becomes increasingly painful. The vulva and vagina skin loses elasticity, becoming dry and thin and making arousal difficult. In these cases, vaginal estrogen can be prescribed to keep genital organs plump, supple, and safe for sex.

For premenopausal women, pain with sex can come from a number of physical conditions such as vestibulodynia, vaginismus or endometriosis.
